Hulu is gearing up for the return to Gilead with The Testaments, the highly anticipated follow-up to The Handmaid’s Tale, set to premiere in April 2026, according to Deadline. The series brings back Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale, Compliance) as Aunt Lydia, alongside Chase Infiniti (Dopesick, The White Lotus) as Agnes, Lucy Halliday (The Pale Blue Eye, The Great) as Daisy, Rowan Blanchard (Snowpiercer, A Wrinkle in Time) as Shunammite, and Mattea Conforti (Hamilton on Disney+, West Side Story) as Becka. Deadline reports that the cast also includes Isolde Ardies (The Witcher: Blood Origin, Sandman), Shechinah Mpumlwana (The Watcher, Ginny & Georgia), and Birva Pandya (The Sandman, Breathe) joining the ensemble. First-look photos released at CCXP25 in Brazil give fans their earliest glimpse at the new season’s dark and foreboding aesthetic.

As reported by Deadline, The Testaments, based on Margaret Atwood’s classic novel, picks up the story of Gilead years after The Handmaid’s Tale ends. This part focuses on a new generation of young ladies who have known nothing except the repressive and harsh theocracy. Facing a future of arranged marriages and slavery, these people will form perilous alliances to recapture their individuality, providing viewers with a new viewpoint on survival and rebellion in the dystopian society.

Per Deadline, the series is brought to life for television by showrunner and executive producer Bruce Miller (The Handmaid’s Tale, The 100), with executive producers including Warren Littlefield (Fargo, The Handmaid’s Tale), Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale, Shirley), Steve Stark (Succession, The Morning Show), Shana Stein (Pose, The Gilded Age), Maya Goldsmith (Billions, Kaleidoscope), John Weber (The Morning Show, Shameless), Sheila Hockin (Vikings: Valhalla, Anne with an E), Daniel Wilson (American Gods, The Umbrella Academy), Fran Sears (Your Honor, Power Book II: Ghost), and Mike Barker (The Handmaid’s Tale, Fargo), who directs the first three episodes. MGM Television produces the series. Deadline highlights that these creative minds aim to expand the world of Gilead while deepening its political intrigue and character-driven drama.
