Deadline announced, Foster Dade, a new mystery youth drama, was given the greenlight from Hulu for a pilot. Greg Berlanti (Brilliant Minds, Fly Me to the Moon) and Bathsheba Doran (Outlaw King, The Face) are the co-creators of Foster Dade. The script for Foster Dade is based on the novel by Nash Jenkins, Foster Dade Explores the Cosmos.
Deadline states the novel takes place in the year 2008 to the present day at a boarding school on the East Coast. The show will explore themes such as privilege, sexuality, and masculinity, among the rise of social media anxiety, as well as pharmaceuticals. Last April, Hulu brought the spec script in for discussion. Berlanti, Sarah Schecter (Be More Chill, Fly Me To The Moon), and Leigh London Redman (Brilliant Minds, Found) will be the executive producers alongside Doran, Jenkins, and Robbie Rodgers (Stillwater, My Policeman), as well as Donald De Line (The Italian Job, Ready Player One) of De Line Pictures.
According to Deadline, Hulu’s streaming service has been leaning more into pilot and television projects in development, including drama and comedy. Berlanti co-wrote two other dramas recently. Stillwater, co-written by Carly Wray (Mad Men, The Leftovers), and based on the comic book series, Skybound, which is now on Prime Video. Brilliant Minds, a medical drama for NBC, is the third drama Berlanti has his name on. Berlanti is repped by CAA.
Foster Dade is not the first time Doran has worked with Hulu. Doran also developed other projects, including the film Henry, filming in 2026 and starring Ralph Fiennes (Conclave, Macbeth). She was also the co-executive producer for The Looming Tower. Deadline also mentions that Doran is in development with MGM Television for a limited series with Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada, The Devil Wears Prada 2) for Apple TV+ and is an executive producer for Traitors for Channel 4 and Netflix. Doran is repped by UTA, Untitled Entertainment, and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham.
