Difficult People, a Hulu original comedy, is getting a second season.
It stars Billy Eichner and Julie Klausner as meaner versions of themselves. Set in NYC, they play two people trying to make it in the comedy world where the only ones who understand them are each other. The show is executive produced by big comedy names with Amy Poehler, Dave Becky (Louie), Tony Hernandez of Jax Media and showrunner Scott King. Eichner and Klausner also executive produce, according to Deadline.
New episodes have been premiering weekly on Hulu, they were not released all at once. The series will get a 10 episode second season, Hulu announced earlier today.
“We have been big fans of Difficult People from day one and are so happy to have Julie and Billy be part of the Hulu family,” said Hulu’s SVP and head of content Craig Erwich in a statement. “I cannot wait to see what a whole new season will bring and am pleased to bring more of their hilarious brand of comedy to fans.”
Difficult People has been met with mixed reviews. Some have called it a fun show to watch about mean, but ultimately funny, characters whose lives feel real. TVGuide says it’s show that’s easy to obsess over. Some of the jokes have been called out for being offensive though. A joke about Blue Ivy and R. Kelly has gotten a lot of criticism. Hulu has obviously decided that the show is worth another season in spite of the backlash.
“I’m the luckiest girl in the world to be able to make more episodes of Difficult People,” said Klausner in a statement. “This must be what it feels like to win the lottery, have a fast metabolism or win an Oscar for My Cousin Vinny.”
The remainder of season one will be released on Wednesdays on Hulu.
