According to CNN, the World Wrestling Entertainment declared that professional wrestler Terry Bollea, known as Hulk Hogan (The Adventures of Nikki the Wonder Dog, WWE: OMG! Volume 2-The Top 50 incidents in WCW), passed on Thursday at the age of 71. Bollea is the most widely recognized wrestling star of all time and helped the WWE become what it is today, with his larger-than-life personality in the 80s and 90s. Bollea became a household name in and out of the ring, starring in movies shown throughout the world.
“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped the WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans,” a statement read from CNN.
According to CNN, Hogan was living in the city of Clearwater, Florida, when the police and fire department were dispatched to his home, where he was pronounced dead from a cardiac arrest. Bollea was treated by first responders and then transported to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was officially pronounced dead.
CNN mentioned that the police stated that there were no signs of any suspicious activity relating to Bollea’s death.
CNN mentioned that Bollea brought professional wrestling into mainstream entertainment. With Bollea’s physique and his long blonde hair, he quickly became the crowd’s favorite. He had a small cameo in Rocky III, collaborated with Vince McMahon and Mr. T (The A-Team, Rocky IV), and his animated series, Hulk Hogan’s Rock’ n Wrestling, debuted in 1985 on CBS’s Saturday Morning lineup.
CNN reports that in 1996, Hogan made the most of his Hollywood career, shaping one of the most memorable periods in wrestling history with WCW television ratings at an all-time high. Bollea returned to the WWE in the early 2000s as a full-time performer.
Even though Bollea stayed out of politics, CNN reports he did endorse Obama in 2008, but in recent years, he shifted over to the Republican Party.
According to CNN, Hogan was seen at the Republican National Convention. Hogan was seen ripping off his shirt and exposing his Trump-Vance tank top underneath. This was one of the first times that he came out and spoke about politics.
According to CNN, Trump issued a statement on Truth Social saying, “We lost a great friend today, ‘The Hulkster.’ Hulk Hogan was MAGA all the way — Strong, tough, smart, but with the biggest heart.” Vance posted his thoughts on X, saying, “One of the first people I ever truly admired as a kid. The last time I saw him, we promised we’d get beers together next time we saw each other. The next time will have to be on the other side, my friend! Rest in peace.”
