According to Deadline the Peacock comedy series, ‘Dig’ will be bringing on Hugh Laurie (The Daily Show, Avenue 5) as the male lead who will play opposite of Amy Poehler (Nicktoons, Inside Out 2). The creator, Mike Schur (The Office, Hacks), of ‘Dig’ is also the creator of Parks and Recreation will be reunited with Poehler.
‘Dig’ is based off the best selling book Excavaton by Kate Myers. The story is centered around four women who work on an archeological dig in the country of Greece. Each of the four women all have different lives, but when one uncovers a long-buried secret and they start to rewrite history, they all find themselves in a possible international conspiracy. Poehler plays one of the four women.
The new character that will be introduced is Neville, a British professor who will be played by Laurie. Neville loves his profession as an archaeologist and continues to try to keep his dying professon alive. Neville sees himself as an inspiring mentor for anyone who enters the career, especially those who works on the same site as he does.
Deadline noted that Schur and Poehler co-wrote the pilot script along with J. Philbin (Single Parents, New Girl) who also serves as one of the writers for the series. Morgan Sackett ( will the executive producing the series along side, Schur, Poehler and Sackett, as Dean Holland (Loot, Not Yet Dead), David Becky (Loot, Strangers with Candy) and David Miner (Hacks, The Four Seasons) will direct.
Deadline mentioned that Laurie has earned ten Emmy nominations for House, The Night Manager and Veep. He also has won three golden Globes and two SAG Awards. Recently,he finished filming on a drama series, The Wanted Man for Apple TV and will be appearing on Tehran in season 3 premeiring on January 9, 2026. He also is recognized for his voice as Albus Dumbledore in new Harry Potter audiobook series. ’Dig’ will be coming from Universal Television is getting ready to start production.
