

According to Deadline, the Peacock comedy series Dig brings on Hugh Laurie (The Daily Show, Avenue 5) as the male lead who will play opposite Amy Poehler (Nicktoons, Inside Out 2). The creator, Mike Schur (The Office, Hacks), was also the creator of Parks and Recreation with Poehler.
According to Deadline, Dig is based on the best-selling book Excavation by Kate Myers (A Man Called Otto, The Emigrants). The story is centered around four women who work on an archeological dig in the country of Greece. Each of the four women all have different lives, but when one uncovers a long-buried secret, and they start to rewrite history, they all find themselves in a possible international conspiracy. Poehler plays one of the four women.
A new character that will be introduced is Neville, a British professor, played by Laurie, according to Deadline. Neville loves his profession as an archaeologist and continues to try to keep his dying profession alive. Neville sees himself as an inspiring mentor for anyone who enters the career, especially those who work on the same site as he does.
Deadline noted that Schur and Poehler co-wrote the pilot script along with J. Philbin (Single Parents, New Girl), who also serves as one of the writers for the series. Morgan Sackett (Loot, Hacks) is an executive producer on the series alongside Schur, Poehler, director Dean Holland (Loot, Not Yet Dead), David Becky (Loot, Strangers with Candy), David Miner (Hacks, The Four Seasons), Kate Arend (Baking It, Russian Doll) and Jordan Grief (Moxie, Ducanville) with Peohler’s Paper Kite, and fianlly, Ocean Avenue’s Sharon Jackson (Life & Beth).
Deadline mentioned that Laurie has earned ten Emmy nominations for House, The Night Manager and Veep. He also has won three Golden Globes and two SAG Awards. Recently, he finished filming on a drama series, The Wanted Man, for Apple TV, and will appear on Tehran in season 3, premiering on January 9, 2026. He is also recognized for his voice as Albus Dumbledore in the new Harry Potter audiobook series. Dig starts production soon from Universal Television.
