The How I Met Your Mother spin-off is set to continue at Hulu. Deadline has confirmed that How I Met Your Father has been renewed for a second season at Hulu.
The series focuses on Sohpie (played by Hillary Duff) who, in the near future, tells her son the story of how she met his father. The series is set in 2021 and follows Sophie and her friends navigating adulthood and love in the age of social media and dating apps.
Alongside Duff, the cast also includes Francia Raisa (Secret Life, Grown-ish), Chris Lowell (Private Practice, Enlisted), Tom Ainsley (Serpent), Tien Tran (Candyman), and Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi).
The series is written and produced by duo Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger (This is Us, Love, Victor). The two will be finishing up This is Us in May, and the final season of Love, Victor is set to debut in June.
“Isaac and Elizabeth’s inspired vision for How I Met Your Father has proven to be true appointment viewing that fans cannot get enough of week to week,” Jordan Helman, Head of Scripted Content at Hulu Originals, told Deadline. “The lives of these characters, as portrayed by the immensely talented cast led by Hilary Duff, are just starting to unfold and we’re thrilled to bring more of this group’s journey to our viewers with a supersized second season.”
Despite the renewal, the How I Met Your Father sequel received mix to negative reviews upon its first few episodes with a 35 percent from critics on RottenTomatoes.
New episodes of How I Met Your Father stream on Hulu every Tuesday.
