‘House Of The Dragon’ Episode Two Surpasses Episode One’s Record-Breaking Ratings With 10.2 Million Viewers

The buzz around the new Game Of Thrones spinoff series House Of The Dragon isn’t going away. The second episode of the new series drew in 10.2 million viewers across all platforms when it aired on Sunday night, which is 2% increase from the show’s premiere episode which aired on August 21st, as noted by Entertainment Weekly.

The premiere episode, titled “The Heirs Of The Dragon,” of House Of The Dragon brought in 9.986 million viewers, which was the largest series premiere in HBO history. For reference, the original Game Of Thrones had 2.22 million viewers during its premiere in 2011. After a week of availability, the premiere episode is now approaching 25 million viewers, per Entertainment Weekly.

As a result of the show’s early success, HBO has already announced that House Of The Dragon will be renewed for a second season.

After the premiere episode was aired, Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer at HBO and HBO Max, released a statement on the early positive response on House Of The Dragon. 

“It was wonderful to see millions of Game Of Thrones fans return with us to Westeros last night. House Of The Dragon features an incredibly talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into the production, and we’re ecstatic with viewers’ positive response. We look forward to sharing with audiences what else George, Ryan, and Miguel have in store for them this season,” Bloys said, per Entertainment Weekly.

House Of The Dragon is based on George R.R Martin’s (The Winds Of Winter) book Fire & Blood and takes place 200 years before the events of Game Of Thrones. The show stars Milly Alcock (Upright), Paddy Considine (Dead Man’s Shoes), Emily Carey (Anastasia), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill), Steve Toussaint (Flight Of Fury), Eve Best (Nurse Jackie), Fabien Frankel (The Serpant), Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina), Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers). and Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One).
