In 2022, actor Kevin Spacey (House of Cards, The Usual Suspects) was faced with total of nine charges of alleged sexual assault. The alleged actions happened between 2001 and 2013 with four alleged male victims. He had denied each of the charges made against him. According to Deadline, the United Kingdom court found Kevin Spacey not guilty of all charges.
As Deadline notes, the trial took place over the course of four weeks. The final deliberation took 12 hours and 26 minutes before a verdict was decided upon today July 26th.
According to Deadline, outside of the Southwark Crown Court, Spacey stated, “I imagine that many of you can understand that there’s a lot for me to process after what has just happened today.”
He continued, “But I would like to say that I’m enormously grateful to the jury for having taken the time to examine all of the evidence and all of the facts, carefully, before they reached their decision. And I am humbled by the outcome today.”
Spacey had already lost his current acting position and some future opportunities due to other allegations of sexual misconduct. Specifically, Spacey was fired from House of Cards during its sixth season. As Variety notes, one of the production assistants on the show had claimed that he was one of Spacey’s alleged victims of alleged sexual assault. Due to this, the production company of the series, MRC, had ordered Spacey to pay them about 31 million dollars due to a breach of contract.
Actor Anthony Rapp (Star Trek: Discovery, Rent) was one of the first individuals to bring accusations against Spacey. According to Deadline, Rapp first brought up accusations in 2017, but he filed a lawsuit against Spacey in 2020.
As for future acting positions, Spacey was dropped from the upcoming film 1242: Gateway To The West. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was announced in January that the late Ray Stevenson (Punisher: War Zone, Thor) was to take Spacey’s lead role.
Despite the alleged sexual assault charges against Spacey being dropped, there is no telling what is next for him and his career.
