According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oscar winner Hilary Swank will recur in the thriller series, Yellowjackets. The Showtime drama is currently filming its third season.
Produced by Lionsgate, Yellowjackets follows a group of women uniquely trauma-bonded: they all survived an airplane crash in the Canadian wilderness as teenagers. Some twenty-odd years later, they find themselves reunited as someone – or something – haunts them with the sins of their past. The series stars Melanie Lynskey (Sweet Home Alabama, The Last of Us), Christina Ricci (Batman: Caped Crusader, Casper), Tawny Cypress (Heroes, Unforgettable), Simone Kessell (Outlaws, Muru), Lauren Ambrose (Loving Leah, Servant), Sophie Thatcher (Prospect, MaXXXine), Sophie Nélisse (Irena’s Vow, The Book Theif), Jamsin Savoy Brown (Scream VI, Sound of Violence), Sammi Hanratty (Shameless, Seeds of Yesterday), Liv Hewson (Dramaworld, Under My Skin) and Courtney Eaton (Line of Duty, Parachute).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, not much has been shared about Swank’s character, however, she’s to appear in the latter half of the third season. Swank is the second high-profile cast member to join the series, following Community and Animal Control’s Joel McHale.
Swank was recently featured in the now-canceled ABC crime drama, Alaska Daily, where Swank played a journalist relocated to The Last Frontier state. Sawnk is more known for her appearances in films, including 2004’s Million Dollar Baby and 1999’s Boys Don’t Cry, which garnered Swank’s two Best Actress Oscar wins.
Created by Ashley Lyle (Narcos: New Mexico) and Bart Nickerson (Narcos), Yellowjackets’s second season ended with a major character’s death in the present-day timeline and a devastating loss in the 1996 timeline. Last airing Memorial Day weekend in 2023, the third season was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. Season three is scheduled to premiere sometime next year.
Both seasons of Yellowjackets are available on Paramount+ With Showtime.
