Helena Bonham Carter, Mia McKenna-Bruce and More Cast in Netflix’s Agatha Christie Adaptation

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix’s new adaptation of Agatha Christie’s (The Mousetrap, And Then There Were None) novel The Seven Dials Mystery has found its cast in diverse array of award winning actors. Netflix has yet to announce the release date for the new series; however, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Mia McKenna-Bruce (How to Have Sex, The Vampire Academy) will lead the three-part miniseries.

McKenna-Bruce, who won a BAFTA earlier this year for her breakthrough performance in How to Have Sex, portrays the miniseries’ protagonist, Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent. Brent is a recurring character in Christie’s work, leading both The Seven Dials Mystery and The Secret Chimneys. According to The Hollywood Reporter, fans can expect McKenna-Bruce in leading role archetypal of Christie’s work as a “young determined sleuth.” Mia McKenna-Bruce is not the only acclaimed actor to join the cast of the murder mystery series. As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, Academy Award-nominated actress Helena Bonham Carter (The Crown, Enola Holmes) and Emmy Award-winning actor Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, Black Panther) are set to support Bruce in undisclosed roles.

Also among the supporting cast is Oscar winner Anjelica Huston (Smash, Prizzi’s Honor), who was previously announced to be leading the three-part limited series Towards Zero, another Christie adaptation, Mimi Keene (Sex Education, After Everything) and Ella Lily Hyland (A Thousand Blows, Silent Roar), also joining Huston in Towards Zero. The Seven Dials Mystery takes place in 1925, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter, and follows Bundle Brent as she attempts to solve a murderous plot following a practical joke gone horrifically wrong.

The Netflix miniseries begins filming this summer with Chris Chibnall (Doctor Who, Broadchurch) serving as writer and Sam Yates (Magpie, Cymbeline) helming the production as director. This is not Yates’ first time taking on the murder mystery legend as he previously directed Agatha and the Curse of Ishtar, an alternative history biographical made-for-television film reimagining the life of Christie.

Speaking on the creative genius of Yates and Chibnall, Bruce told The Hollywood Reporter, “Chibnall’s scripts are brilliant, and I am thrilled to be a part of this new interpretation of the iconic Agatha Christie.” While there is not a release date set for the miniseries, fans of Christie can expect more news on the series, as well as Towards Zero later this year as they are both filming.
