According to Deadline, Netflix has given the go-ahead on a Heartstopper movie. It will be executive produced by—and will star—Kit Connor (His Dark Materials; Rocketman) and Joe Locke (Agatha All Along), and it will be directed by Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice; Colette). The movie’s announcement came on the third anniversary of Heartstopper‘s initial premiere on April 22nd, 2022, and it will serve as the series finale.
Heartstopper‘s fanbase was left waiting patiently for six months regarding the fate of the show. While ideas of a fourth season were the main ones being anticipated, a movie also brings a positive note, ultimately relieving the audience from the show’s hiatus.
Deadline states that Alice Oseman, creator of the original Heartstopper graphic books that the series bases off and writer of the Heartstopper novellas (Nick & Charlie; This Winter), will return as writer for the feature film. The film will draw from the final volume of the graphic novel series—as seasons 1-3 of the Heartstopper television series drew from Vol.1-5—as well as the Nick and Charlie novella.
According to Deadline, Oseman expressed joy when initially asked about Heartstopper‘s future endeavors. She stated, “I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”
