The HBO crime thriller anthology series, True Detective, is in the preparation stages for locating and acquiring writers for a fourth installment, according to Deadline. The anthology series premiered on the premium network channel back in 2014 with the Louisiana detective duo of Matthew MccConaughey’s (Dazed and Confused, Interstellar) Rust Cohle and Woody Harrleson’s (No Country For Old Men) Marty Hart. Created by Nic Pizzolatto (Deadwood: The Movie, The Killing), the series garnered critical acclaim for its first season before debuting a second and third seasons with brand new cast and plotlines.
Currently, True Detective has aired its three seasons from 2014 to 2019 with the fourth season still up in the air. From reports according to Deadline, the series is in the process of talking with potential writers for a new season. The chief content officer at HBO and HBO Max Casey Bloys commented on the process of finding new writers to take on the series. “It’s safe to say we’re working with a couple of writers to find the right tone and take. It’s definitely an area that could be very interesting and I think it would be interesting with a new voice. Quality is what’s going to guide us so if we end up with scripts that we don’t feel are representative or are not at a high quality, we’re not going to do something just to do it,” stated Bloys, via Deadline.
True Detective’s creator Pizzolatto has not been confirmed for a fourth season at this current time but has stated in the past that he does possess an idea for an upcoming installment. The HBO original has centered around the pairing of Hart and Cohle as well as the second season of Colin Farrell (Seven Psychopaths), Rachel McAdams (Mean Girls, The Notebook), Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), and Vince Vaughn, in addition to a third season consisting of Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) and Stephen Dorff (Blade).
The series can be streamed in its entirety on HBO Max. For television fans wishing to get a glimpse of this critically acclaimed series, check out the first season trailer below:
