Ten years ago, the dark fantasy drama, True Blood, said its last goodbye after seven seasons and exited HBO with series finale that seemingly left some fans frustrated and wanting answers. Over the years, the show has been praised for its cast and captivating storytelling, even earning it a Golden Globe award and an Emmy.
When a show has great writers, the sky becomes the limit and success pours in. For their work to come to life on screen, they need great actors as well. An example of that is Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer who have done tremendous job with playing their parts as Sookie and Bill. However, True Blood creator Alan Ball reveals that casting could have gone differently. He said,” “I read Benedict Cumberbatch. He came and read for Bill. … Jessica Chastain read for Sookie.”
The name Ball dropped next from auditions was one of an actress who has garnered quite a list of achievements. “Jennifer Lawrence read for, in season 3 there’s this werepanther girl, and she was great,” Ball said of Lawrence. Nonetheless, Ball did not cast her. “But all the women in the room, because she was going to be Jason’s girlfriend, and she was 17 at the time, were like, ‘No that’s gross,’” he said.
While attending the Vulture Festival on Sunday for the 10th-anniversary screening of the True Blood pilot, Ball, confirmed that there will be a musical for the series. He said, “they’re workshopping a True Blood musical. I’ve heard all the music and it’s actually pretty good. It tells the story of vampires coming out of the closet and this love story and then ultimately it [diverts] from the book series … and they end up going back into the closet.” Ball did not say whether he will be attached to the musical or not.
The musical will be composed by Nathan Barr. No date has been announced for the project.
