According to Deadline, The White Lotus creator Mike White (Enlightened, Brad’s Status) plans to travel to France for the fourth season of the series. A representative for HBO declined to comment. To produce the anthology series, HBO has a marketing partnership with the Four Seasons hotel chain, whose hotels are used as White Lotus hotels. Now, those who are speculating have their sights set on the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, which is located at the very tip of the Cap-Ferrat peninsula on the French Riviera. The hotel is in close proximity to Cannes, which has strong ties to Hollywood.
Adding fuel to the fire, Deadline writes that White has reportedly been seen in the French Riviera area this past summer, notably at the Hotel Negresco in Nice. The hotel shares Belle Époque-style architecture with the Cap-Ferrat.
Deadline notes that sources emphasize the fact that no particular hotel has been chosen yet, as the series tends to use multiple resorts in one season. Two more French Four Seasons hotels are the Megève in the French Alps and the Hotel George V, which is located right in the middle of Paris.
“For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the crashing waves of rocks vernacular, but there’s always more room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels,” White said after Season Three, according to Deadline. The Cap-Ferrat is notably not directly on the beach.
Deadline speculates that the Megève could also help change things up a bit. However, it may not work depending on production timing, due to the fact that the location tends to be a ski resort over the winter, and White is against being in the cold.
Regardless, back in February, Deadline noted that The White Lotus was “likely” to return to Europe for its fourth season.
