HBO’s ‘The Penguin’ Reveals Extensive Emmy Plans

Deadline reports that the wildly popular HBO limited series The Penguin is vying for several awards in this upcoming Emmy race. The show was a critical and commercial hit with a high chance of taking home several awards.

According to Deadline, Colin Farrell (The Lobster, In Bruges) will be gunning for the Best Actor award for his incredibly nuanced and grounded portrayal of the titular Penguin, Oswald “Oz” Cobb. Cristin Milioti (Palm Springs, The Wolf of Wall Street) will be going for the Best Actress award for her impactful portrayal of Sofia Falcone.

In addition to Farrell and Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz (The Tender Bar, Runaways), who played Oz’s loyal right-hand man Victor Aguilar, will be entering the Best Supporting Actor category. Deidre O’Connell, who delivered an incredible performance as Oz’s mother, Francis Cobb, will be up for Best Supporting Actress, according to Deadline.

Aside from the actors, directors Craig Zobel (Compliance, The Hunt), who directed episode 101 (“After Hours”), Helen Shaver (Orphan Black, Station Eleven) who directed episode 104 (“Cent’anni”), Kevin Bray (Walking Tall, All About the Benjamins), who directed episode 107 (“Top Hat”) and Jennifer Getzinger (Mad Men, The Morning Show), who directed episode 108 (“A Great or Little Thing”), will be vying for Best Director honors, according to Deadline.

Casting directors Cindy Tolen (The Fabelmans, The Batman) and Suzanne Ryan (Law & Order, Blindspot) will be in the race, as will Directors of Photography Darran Tiernan (Barry, The Hunt), Jonathan Freeman (3 Body Problem, Game of Thrones), David Franco (Game of Thrones, Scott Pilgram vs. the World), and Zoë White (The Handmaid’s Tale, Werewolf by Night) for episodes 101, 105 (“Homecoming”), 107 and 108, respectively, according to Deadline.

Editors Andy Keir (Your Friends & Neighbors, Warrior), Meg Reticker (30 Rock, True Detective), and Henk Van Eeghen (Lost, Fargo) will be up for Picture Editing. Show creator Lauren LeFranc (Chuck, Agents of Shield) will be competing in the writing category. Deadline reports that HBO will also be submitting for the following categories: Outstanding Limited Series, Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program, Contemporary Hairstyling, Contemporary Makeup, Prosthetic Makeup, Music Composition, Music Supervision, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Special Visual Effects, Stunt Coordination, Stunt Performance, and Title Design.

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards are scheduled for September 14, 2025.
