Season two of the highly acclaimed video game-based TV series The Last of Us has received an update on its upcoming season two. The series follows Joel, played by Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian), and Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones), as they traverse their post-apocalyptic world. The first season concludes with Joel choosing to save Ellie’s life rather than her being sacrificed in order to save the rest of the world and fight against the Fireflies. According to Comicbook, since the series concluded back in 2023, fans have awaited further news, but they might not have to wait as long as intended.
According to Comicbook, HBO’s Chairman and CEO of Content, Casey Bloys, stated in an interview with Deadline at a post-Emmy party, “Well, all I’ll say now, generally first half of the year, I expect them to be in the Emmy window.” This could mean that the second season could debut before the end of May 2025, with possibly six episodes to make up for the series being absent from this year’s Emmy Awards.
According to Comicbook, this season, Joel and Ellie will meet new characters along their journey, such as Kaitlyn Dever (Last Man Standing) as Abby, Isabela Merced (Madame Web) as Dina, Young Mazino (Beef) as Jesse, Danny Ramirez (Captain America: Brave New World) as Manny, Ariela Barer (Runaways) as Mel, Tati Gabrielle (Uncharted) as Nora, Jeffrey Wright (The Batman) as Isaac Dixon and Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara (Home Alone) in an undisclosed role.
The series has been complemented for being a faithful representation to the video game franchise. According to Comicbook, the second season of The Last of Us wrapped up production back in August, and now the team is focused on finishing the post-production. While waiting on further news about the second season, fans can rewatch the entire first season on Max.
