When Pedro Pascal (Narcos, Game Of Thrones, The Mandalorian) arrived at the Golden Globes with an arm sling, viewers wondered if this would affect the production of season two of The Last Of Us. Turns out it won’t delay filming, which will begin next month, as the show is expected to release in 2025, Deadline reports.
According to Deadline, the Max drama has been renewed for a second season after breaking the record for the second-largest premiere since the release of Boardwalk Empire in 2010. This show was also able to snatch eight Creative Arts Emmy Awards last weekend, the most of the night. Some of these wins include two awards for Outstanding Guest Actors, given to Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation, We’re The Millers, Candy Cane Lane) and Storm Reid (Missing, A Wrinkle In Time, Euphoria); another important award won was for the Outstanding Drama Series category.
Pascal and costar, Bella Ramsey (Game Of Thrones, The Worst Witch, Time), haven’t won the actor categories but they are still nominated for the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, via Deadline, set to be broadcast on Jan. 15. Furthermore, this show has an Outstanding Drama Series category nomination once again for the same awards next Monday.
Despite having much success, this show’s second season had many setbacks before having an official filming date in Feb. 2024, because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. The series finished its first season back in Mar. 2023, but the strike was able to put a halt in writing and production for the show. Luckily, the strike ended in Fall 2023, so HBO was able to decide a date for filming and now everything is going as planned.
One thing that the series’ production team has released are three new major casting additions for the second season. One of them is Kaitlyn Dever (No One Will Save You, Booksmart, Last Man Standing). She will play one of the main characters, Abby, along with Pascal (Joey) and Ramsey (Elle). The second season of the show is supposed to be based off the videogame released in 2020, named The Last of Us Part II, in which Abby is portrayed as one of the most important characters.
The TV show’s storyline is based off the video game created by Naughty Dog, via Deadline. It shows civilization after 20 years that is was destroyed. Joel, played by Pascal, is a survivor of the apocalypse and he is hired to bring Ellie (Ramsey) safely out from a quarantine zone.
The Last Of Us’ first season is now available for streaming on Max.
