The new comedy will center around Frances who is played by Sarah Jessica Parker. Frances is a middle-aged woman, who becomes convinced by her friends that she should divorce her husband. This impulse idea leaves Frances questioning herself and her marriage, but then her husband finds out about the affair she’s been having and he initiates their separation.
Thomas Haden Church will play her husband. If all goes well for Divorce, the show will mark Church’s longest TV commitment since 1995-97’s Ned and Stacey. According to Hollywood Reporter, Church is an Emmy nominee for his supporting role in AMC’s Broken Trail. He was also nominated for an Oscar for Sideways.

Shannon returns to HBO with this comedy after her Emmy nomination for her guest run on Enlightened. Shannon is known for Never Been Kissed, Hotel Transylvania and Bad Teacher.
Talia Balsam will portray Dallas, who is Frances’ closest friend. She has not only gone through divorce but is also a widow. She is known for playing Mona Sterling on Mad Men. She has also been in No Strings Attached, The Wackness and All the King’s Men.
Church is represented by CAA, Viking Entertainment and Gendler & Kelly. Shannon is with UTA, Framework Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson. Balsam is with Gersh.
Sarah Jessica Parker will not only star in this new HBO comedy, but she will also executive produce. Writing the script will be Sharon Horgan, whose recent pilots include Fox’s Dead Boss as well as ABC’s Bad Management and Pulling.
