HBO’s ‘Last Week Tonight With John Oliver’ Renewed For Three Seasons

According to Deadline, the HBO program titled Last Week Tonight With John Oliver has been renewed for at least three more seasons. This means that the show will run until 2026. The deal comes just as the tenth season comes to a close, which has extended the lifetime of the show for thirteen seasons.

Oliver’s last deal ran until 2023. He becomes the newest television host to be renewed, along with Stephen Colbert (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert) and Jimmy Kimmel (Jimmy Kimmel Live!) who both signed similar deals, according to Deadline

Due to the writers’ strike earlier this year, the show was stunted, airing two-thirds of what the show would normally have to offer, says Deadline. However, Oliver was able to comply with audience demands by still creating engaging content on topics such as timeshares and abortion rights.

However, while Oliver spoke of many campaigns, Deadline highlights his most significant accomplishment this past season was his campaign for the pūteketke. During this time, he hosted a contest that normally brings in 60,000 votes but this year managed to rake in a staggering 350,000 votes. In fact, it was so successful that it had to be delayed due to the sheer amount of votes.

Deadline cited how Oliver stated, We’re very happy to get to keep making this show with our fantastic staff, we will continue trying to stretch the term ‘entertainment’ to the breaking point.”

Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO & Max Content, also rang in his thoughts. Deadline reported that Bloys said, “Over the past decade, John and his exceptional team have combined deep research and intelligence with cutting humor to tackle a broad range of subjects, both widely discussed and unconventional.”

The show has won the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Talk Series for seven years in a row. This year, however, it is nominated for Outstanding Scripted Variety Series, revealed Deadline.
