

According to Deadline, the upcoming HBO DC series Lanterns adds J. Alphonse Nicholson (They Cloned Tyrone) to its growing roster. Nicholson will be taking on the role of a young version of John Senior.
Created by Chris Mundy (Low Winter Sun), Damon Lindelof (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Tom King (The Darkest Universe), Lanterns follows the new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland. The series is based of DC’s Green Lantern comic book franchise and is part of James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) new DCU.
Nicholson joins the rest of the cast which includes Kyle Chandler (Back In Action) as Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre (Mufasa: The Lion King) as John Stewart, Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire) as Sherriff Kerry, Ulrich Thomsen (The Blacklist, Banshee) as Sinestro, Poorna Jagannathan (Big Little Lies) as Zoe, Jason Ritter (Matlock) as Billy Macon, Garret Dillahunt (No Country for Old Men) as William Macon, Nicole Ari Parker (Remember the Titans) as Bernadette and many more to be announced.
Nicholson is known for his roles on Starz’s P-Valley, FX’s Clipped, Hulu’s White Men Can’t Jump and Netflix’s Madam CJ Walker. Other than Lanterns Nicholson is set to appear Shadowbox, Black Spartans, Goons, and That’s Her. Nicholson was also featured in A Soldier’s Play on Broadway which won the Tony for Best Revival of a Play.
As per Deadline, The eight-episode Lanterns is produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros Television and DC Studios. Mundy serves as showrunner and Lindelof and King are co-writing and executive producing on the series. James Hawes (Slow Horses) ill be directing the first two episodes of the show.
Lanterns is scheduled to premiere in 2026 with more information on the series to be released throughout the year.
