HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Casts James and Lily Potter, Charlie Weasley

HBO’s Harry Potter is a highly anticipated event. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the show has cast its James and Lily Potter, alongside Charlie Weasley.

In the roles of James and Lily Potter are Jasper Talbot (Ruthless, Broadchurch) and Hannah Chinn (The Conjuring: Last Rites, Malpractice), respectively. The duo’s death sets off the events of the story. Meanwhile, Charlie Weasley will be played by Harry Gilby (Tolkien, The Last Kingdom). The second-born son of Arthur Weasley, played in this adaptation by Rafe Spall (Trying, The Ritual), and Molly Weasley, played by Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd, Here We Go), the character was famously left out of the film series.

HBO’s take on Harry Potter has been making waves since it was announced. Gary Oldman (Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Slow Horses), who played Sirius Black in the film adaptation of the books, stated that the series had the potential to be more satisfying than the films. The first trailer for the series highlighted the new cast, which includes Dominic McLaughlin (Grow, Gifted) as Harry Potter himself, Arabella Stanton (Matilda the Musical, Starlight Express) as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout (Finding Harry: The Craft Behind the Magic) as Ronald Weasley.

Other cast members include Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You, Falling) as Severus Snape, Harry Potter’s least favorite teacher and former Death Eater; John Lithgow (Shrek, Footloose) as Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry; and Janet McTeer (Me Before You, MobLand) as Minerva McGonagall, Transfiguration Professor at Hogwarts.

Production on season two of the series is well underway. Numerous new cast members have been announced, including Kit Harington (Game of Thrones, Pompeii) as Gilderoy Lockhart. Lenny Rush (Enola Holmes, The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland) has also been cast as Dobby. Meanwhile, the role of Ginny Weasley has been recast from Gracie Cochrane (Blitz, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) to Bonnie Hill (The Six Triple Eight, Film Club).
