HBO’s ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2 Will Feature More of Zoë Kravitz

The second season of HBO’s critically-acclaimed drama, Big Little Lies, will feature Bonnie (Zoe Krävitz) in a more central role. In season 1, Bonnie was sidelined as a character and audiences were not given any insight into Bonnie’s own perspective. According to showrunner David E. Kelley, ‘Big Little Lies’ will shed more light on Bonnie’s perspective as she enters the spotlight in season 2.

“She was never part of the franchise of friends that you know in year 1, she was kind of off in her own lane and … seen more through the eyes of Madeline than anyone else,” Kelly said. “This season, we obviously go much, much deeper into who she is, where she came from, and exploring the consequences of her actions in year 1 and also maybe unearthing a little bit of who that person was that came to push Perry down the stairs, and why.”

Season 2 will show the “unhinged” mothers of Monterey dealing with the messy fallout of getting away with murder in a gossipy, close-knit community. Peace-loving Bonnie will have to reckon with her guilt and come to terms with her role in Perry’s murder. David E. Kelley promises to explore Bonnie’s character at a greater depth in season 2. The mothers agree to protect Bonnie during the police investigation, integrating her into the group as one of their own.

Originally intended to be a limited series, the second season of Big Little Lies continues the story that was concluded in Liane Moriarty’s novel and expands beyond the source material. Season 2 will focus on the cover-up of the murder, as Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Renata (Laura Dern), Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz), and Jane (Shailene Woodley) attempt to contain the treacherous truth that threatens the foundations of their carefully choreographed lives.

In her much-anticipated return to television, Meryl Streep makes a formidable appearance as the mother of Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgård) as she grills her daughter-in-law Celeste (Nicole Kidman) for answers about the shady circumstances of her son’s death.

“You don’t believe my son just slipped,” she accuses Celeste, unconvinced that her son’s death was an accident. “You left some things out, didn’t you? You were planning to leave him. And you learned of his infidelity just 10 seconds before he died. Oh, you left that out, too?”

“I can just see the damage that it’s done and it’s eroding every single one of us,” Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) says, as surfacing secrets threaten to destroy her carefully-curated image. Celeste, who is still healing from the trauma of surviving Perry’s abuse, feels responsible for the accident that took her husband’s life and wonders if she’s a monster.

The successful series has notched ten wins for HBO, boasting four Golden Globes and eight Emmys. The network has now made the first season available to stream on YouTube before the Season 2 premiere on Sunday, June 9.
