HBO has unleashed the second teaser below for the long-awaited It: Welcome to Derry series, which was first in talks for production way back in 2022, according to an article by mxdwn. According to Deadline, the spooky teaser was unveiled late Saturday night at San Diego Comic-Con before being released online Sunday.
The teaser above follows Taylour Paige (Hit the Floor, Jean of the Joneses), who plays a young woman who has just moved to Derry with her husband. Unfortunately for the couple, things quickly go south for them in the small town in Maine. At the end of the teaser, Bill Skarsgård’s (It, It Chapter Two) Pennywise appears. Deadline writes that It: Welcome to Derry is set in Stephen King’s IT universe, which includes multiple novels. The HBO series is meant to be a prequel to the two movies that were released in 2017 and 2019, which earned $1.17 billion combined.
The story of IT follows a cursed town in Maine called Derry, which sees Pennywise emerge and take the lives of vulnerable children once every 27 years. Although Pennywise’s most commonly seen form is that of a killer clown, his true form is something beyond human comprehension, as he feeds off of human fear.
Deadline notes that the series is developed by Andy and Barbara Muschietti, both of which previously worked on the movies It and It Chapter Two. Andy Muschietti is also said to direct multiple episodes of the series.
In addition to Paige and Skarsgård, the series will also star Jovan Adepo (Fences, Mother!), Chris Chalk (Gotham, The Newsroom), James Remar (Sex and the City, Dexter), Stephen Rider (The Butler, Lucky 7), Madeleine Stowe (Revenge, Short Cuts), and Rudy Mancuso (The Flash), according to Deadline. The supernatural horror show premieres on HBO this October, just in time for Halloween, and will also be available to stream on HBO Max, Deadline writes.
