Ahead of the coming year, Max has already released its trailer for new shows and new seasons of existing shows. According to an article via Deadline, these include Mike White’s (The White Lotus, Enlightened) The White Lotus, with season three, and the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. HBO has several exciting releases in the pipeline. However, the anticipated third season of Euphoria is not among them. Speaking at the Wells Fargo TMT Summit, JB Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming for Warner Bros. Discovery, confirmed that the series starring Zendaya (K.C. Undercover, Challengers) targets a 2026 return.
The cast includes Walton Goggins (Justified, The Righteous Gemstones), Carrie Coon (The Leftovers, Fargo), Leslie Bibb (American Housewife, Jupiter’s Legacy), Michelle Monaghan (True Detective, Messiah), Parker Posey (Lost in Space, The Good Wife), Blackpink’s Lisa (Money) and season one’s Natasha Rothwell (Insecure, Love, Simon).
According to Perrette, other prominent shows on the network, like The Last of Us season two, previously announced for Spring 2025, remain on target for Q2. There was some miscommunication over the premiere of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which Perrette mentioned for a summer 2025 release.
Bloys told Deadline, “Our biggest tentpoles started to come back in rotation this summer with House of The Dragon 2, then we go The White Lotus which will come in the first quarter in February, then we go into The Last Of Us Season 2 in the second quarter, then we have a new Game of Thrones series, smaller scale series, that will come in over the summer,” Perrette said. “As we look even beyond that we’ll see the third season of Euphoria probably in early 2026, then we get back into House of the Dragon Season 3, so we’re now in a cadence of having at least two or three of our major tentpoles every year.
Perette was also spot on when he decided to release the new plans for the Harry Potter series. They just so happen to be in the process of solidifying their cast before they start production next year.
As you look at ’26 and into ’27, you begin a 10-year journey on the Harry Potter series, which we’re super excited about,” he said via Deadline. “And I’d argue, may be the biggest event by the time we get to that series.
Speaking with Deadline in September, Bloys revealed that the adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s (Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts) books is targeting a debut in late 2026-2027.
Even over the conversations and rumors surrounding the teen drama Euphoria, Bloys confirmed that the host platform HBO is moving forward with the prolonged idea of a third season.
“We are shooting the season, I have read the scripts, we’re happy, we’re moving ahead,” he said. “I know the show gets a lot of attention now because it has created some genuine movie stars, and they have various projects that they’re working on. But we are shooting this season, so nothing has changed.”
In a recent statement, Bloys confirmed that Euphoria season three will consist of eight episodes and feature the return of its main cast members: Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney (The White Lotus, The Handmaid’s Tale) and Jacob Elordi (The Kissing Booth, Deep Water). Additionally, Colman Domingo (The Color Purple, Rustin) will reprise his recurring role. The upcoming season will include a time jump, moving the story forward from the events of season two, which aired in early 2022.
Perrette also discussed HBO/Max’s strategy to release a yearly volume of DC content.
As reported by Deadline, Perrette shared details about HBO/Max’s plans for DC content, stating, “We’re releasing Creature Commandos, an animated series, which kicks off James [Gunn]’ new DCU. We have Peacemaker [Season 2], we’re working on DC Lanterns, but we’re thinking maybe doing 2 DC series a year is probably plenty. You don’t need 4, you don’t need 5.”
As 2025 approaches, HBO/Max is poised to captivate audiences with an exciting mix of returning favorites and fresh, high-profile content. From the eagerly awaited return of Euphoria to the expansion of the Game of Thrones universe and the ambitious Harry Potter series, the network’s strategic mix of established hits and bold new ventures will likely keep subscribers hooked for years to come. As the entertainment landscape continues to evolve, it’s clear that HBO/Max is positioning itself as a key player in the streaming wars, with plenty of big events on the horizon.
