HBO Shows ‘Watchmen’ and ‘Succession’ Lead Winners At TCA Awards

On Monday, the Television Critics Association (TSA) announced that HBO’s Watchmen led winners with awards in categories such as Outstanding Movie, Miniseries, or Special, Outstanding New Program, and Individual Achievement In Drama for Regina King, according to DeadlineThe series also led Emmy nominations with 26 total nominations.

Overall, HBO dominated TCA award wins, with Succession winning Outstanding Achievement in Drama and A Black Lady Sketch Show winning Outstanding Achievement in Sketch/Variety Shows. Having only aired one season, Watchmen was exceptionally acclaimed by critics as it is based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore (From Hell, Jerusalem), and Dave Gibbons (Watching the Watchmen) which follows the events that ensue after a white supremacist attack on a police department that results in law enforcement hiding their identities behind masks and Angela Abar, played by King (227, The Boondocks), adopting the identity of a racist-fighting vigilante.

Meanwhile, Succession follows the Roy family, each continuously fighting for control of their global media and hospitality empire, Waystar Royco. The series was created by Jesse Armstrong (Fresh Meat) and premiered in 2018. It was just recently renewed for a third season.
