The HBO series Avenue 5 revealed that their season 1 debut premiere date will be Sunday, January 19, 2020, according to Deadline. With an overall expected 8-episode season. The series is a Sci-fi comedy that is established to be about “space tourism” that is set 40 years in the future. Hugh Laurie (House) plays Captain Ryan Clark of the luxury vessel, Avenue 5 whose agenda is prepared for an 8-week voyage from Earth to edge to Saturn and back. However, when the space cruiser unexpectedly comes under distress from “technical difficulties” the show will put forth the ongoing problems that Clark’s crew must deal with in finding a way to fix the ship as well the events surrounding the attendees aboard the ship.
Veep creator, Armando Iannucci is the originator behind the show and will work alongside Simon Blackwell and Tony Roche all of who are set as writers for the new series. Executive Producers also include Kevin Loader (The Death of Stalin), Simon Blackwell (Veep; Back), Tony Roche (Veep; Succession) and Will Smith (Damned; Paddington 2), according to TVLine.
Other main cast members of the show include: Josh Gad (Frozen 2) who co-stars with Laurie in the series and plays the snobby billionaire, Herman Judd. Silicon Valley’s, Zach Woods plays Matt Spencer, the Head of Customer Relations who is seemingly terrible at his job. Suzy Nakamura (Dr. Ken) character is co-owner of the ship. Billie McEvoy played by Lenora Crichlow (Fast Girls) is second engineer, Ethan Phillips (Star Trek: Voyager) portrays Spike Williams, a former astronaut turned womaninzer and Himesh Patel (Yesterday) as stand-up comedian Jordan Hatwal.
The series was rumored to have begun development back in April of this year according to a Variety article detailing a series order. Again, the series is set to premiere Sunday, January 19, 2020 on the HBO Network. A trailer for the show can be found here and below.
