According to a press release, HBO just released the first look at the new comedy starring Steve Carell (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Space Force), Rooster. The airdate will be March 2026. All ten episodes will be available to view on HBO. Carell will executive produce the series alongside Bill Lawrence (Head of the Class, Ted Lasso) and Matt Tarses (Scrubs, Sports Night). The two will also serve as co-showrunners.
The press release also just released the series’ logline: “A comedy set on a college campus centering on an author’s (Carell) complicated relationship with his daughter (Charly Clive The Farewell Tour of Witch’s Tyt, Mother Wound).”
According to mxdwn, additional cast members include Danielle Deadwyler (The Women in the Yard, Carry-on), Phil Dunster (The Devil’s Hour, Blake & Mortimer: The Yellow M), John C. McGinley (Hamster & Gretal, Stan Against Evil) and Lauren Tsai (Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Game of Spy).
According to mxdwn, Clive is British actress best known for her performance on the show Pure in 2019 and the sci-fi drama series, The Lazarus Project. Clive is represented by United Agents, Linden Entertainment and Jackoway Austen. mxdwn also previously reported Connie Britton (Promising Young Woman, Friday Night Lights) joined the cast, playing Carell’s ex-wife.
Other credits include producers Jeff Ingold (Bad Monkey, Head of the Class), Liza Katzer (Head of the Class, Whiskey Cavalier), Matt Tarses (Atypical, Bad Monkey), Jonathan Krisel (Sesame Street, Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job! The show was filmed at Warner Bros. Television.
Lawrence has comedies across the TV landscape. In February, the long-rumored Scrubs revival premieres on ABC. And in Janurary, the third season of Apple TV comedy, Shrinking, will debut.
