HBO Renews Original Comedy Series ‘Youth’ For a Second Season

HBO has a bona fide hit on its hands. According to a new press release, its new original comedy series Youth has been picked up for a second season.

Youth’s logline reads, “[Youth] follows a 50-year-old divorcee’s search for sex and love whilst juggling caring for her ailing parents and parenting her should-be grown-up son.” Main character Alex is played by Sharon Horgan (Rally Road Racers, Futurama), who also writes and executive produces the show. Also starring is Rupert Friend (Jurassic World Rebirth, My Notes on Mars) as Patrick, who is Alex’s love interest, whom she refers to as ‘Ex-Pat’. Sharlene Whyte (My Loverman, Number One Fan) also stars as Sam, Alex’s best friend and boss, while Aran Murphy (War, Klara and the Sun) portrays Ruairí Flynn, Alex’s son. Robbie Gee (Sexy Beast, Supacell) rounds out the main cast as Frank, Sam’s husband and a bartender.

“I’m so happy to get another opportunity to live out my emotional and biological crises on HBO. I can’t think of a better platform to air my UTI problems on,” Horgan said in a press release. “The response to [Youth] has been beyond what I could have hoped for. I’m so grateful for the response and the chance to work with this incredible cast and creative team once more.”

Meanwhile, Amy Gravitt, who’s head of HBO & HBO Max’s comedy series, had this to say: “In a way that only she can, Sharon has created a show that makes us howl with laughter and with tears – often in the same moment. Each performance in [Youth] is more delightful than the next. Along with our partners at Merman, we are so thrilled to have this brilliant ensemble back for another season.”

The series ranks among HBO’s top five comedy launches globally and has debuted to a 97% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. It is unclear when season two of the series will enter production, but season one of Youth can be watched on HBO Max.
