Larry David’s long-standing comedy is coming back for more laughs at HBO. According to a press release from the network, Curb Your Enthusiasm has been renewed for another season, marking its twelfth on the air. Originally premiering in 2001, the series has now tallied 110 episodes in its series run.
Created by and starring David, the show follows the longtime TV writer and comedian as an over-the-top version of himself: a somewhat grump of a man perpetually annoyed by anyone and everything. Much like the iconic sitcom Seinfeld – which David co-created – the show explores the nothingness of ordinary life. His life just happens to be surrounded by the intricacies of Hollywood.
“Playing the role of Larry David has been the greatest honor of my life,” David said in the press release. “In researching this multi-faceted, multi-talented man, I discovered that there’s more to him than I ever could have imagined: He speaks six languages, brines his own pickles, and spearheads a national movement to install a bidet in every home. I’ve also been told from numerous sources that he is the most generous of lovers. I am so excited to once again transform into this force of nature. I only pray that I can do him justice.”
David’s David is accompanied by Jeff Garlin (The Goldbergs), Cheryl Hines (The Flight Attendant), JB Smoove (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Susie Essman (Blot), Richard Lewis (Robin Hood: Men in Tights), Vince Vaughn (Wedding Crashers), and Ted Danson (Mr. Mayor) in the show, which has seen a plethora of famous guest stars. What makes the series fresh and new each season is the nearly-all improvised approach to the show. With no actual script, actors are given scene outlines and allowed to riff as they see fit.
“Larry outdoes himself season after season and always manages to come back when the audience needs him most.” Amy Gravitt, EVP of HBO Programming, stated via the press release.”We’re thrilled for him, Jeff Schaffer, and our phenomenal cast to continue making us laugh and cringe in equal measure.”
Season 12 will see David return as an executive producer along with Garlin and Jeff Schaffer (Dave). Laura Streichter (Loudermilk) and Jennifer Corey (Horrible Bosses 2) are co-executive producers.
The Emmy-wining series recently scored four nominations at this year’s ceremony set for September 12 including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for Bill Hader. It’s won a total of two Emmys with 51 nominations.
All seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm are available to stream on HBO Max.
