Dwayne Johnson’s HBO comedy is already getting a second season.
Described as being similar to Entourage, Ballers is a half-hour comedy sports comedy about an ex-football player, played by Johnson, trying to make it as a financial advisor. Johnson advises current and ex players in Miami in the show that also stars John David Washington, Omar Miller, Donovan W. Carter, Troy Garity, London Brown Jazmyn Simon and Rob Corddry, according to Deadline. Johnson does double duty on the show also serving as an executive producer.
Ballers premiered its ten episode season on June 21 on HBO and did very well. The Ballers premiere got 8.9 million viewers across HBO platforms and became HBO’s most watched half-hour series debut in six years. It also garnered the most buzz of any HBO half-hour premiere with 17.9K tweets.
Helping the show’s buzz was the Facebook release of the pilot. For a limited time HBO streamed the pilot of Ballers on Johnson’s Facebook page to reach even more viewers, as we reported here.
The series first season is still ongoing with only 3 episodes already aired.
“The charismatic and hugely talented Dwayne Johnson, along with the rest of the Ballers cast, has truly struck a chord with the HBO audience,” said HBO programming president Michael Lombardo in a statement. “We are thrilled with the overwhelming response the series has received and look forward to another exciting season.”
New episodes of Ballers air on Sundays on HBO.
