HBO has posted an official trailer for the fourth and final season of My Brilliant Friend on their YouTube page. According to Deadline, the show will premiere on September 9, 2024, at 9 p.m. on HBO and will be available to stream on Max. In addition, new episodes of the show will follow every Monday on both HBO and Max.
My Brilliant Friend is a drama based on Elena Ferrante’s (My Brilliant Friend, The Story of the Lost Child) bestselling four-part Neapolitan novel series. My Brilliant Friend is the first of the story. The story takes place in Naples Italy in 1950 and details the complicated friendship between two women Lila and Elena. Both girls have known each other since they were 10 years old, and the story follows their lives as they become women, mothers and wives. Throughout the novel, we see changes take place in Naples Italy, which, in turn, also transform the relationship between the two women.
According to TVline, the fourth season of the show will be based on the fourth book of the Neapolitan Novels, The Story of the Lost Child, which details the adult lives of Elena and Lila as well as the near end of political violence and social unrest that has plagued Italy for decades.
Alba Rohrwacher (Hungry Hearts) will play Elena Greco, and Irene Maioriono (Girls Don’t Cry) as Rafaella “Lila” Cerullo. The cast will also include a slew of popular Italian actors and actresses like Fabrizio Gifuni (Human Capital), Stefano Dionisi (The Children of the Century), Anna Rita Vitolo (Maternage), Pier Giorgio Bellocchio (Blood of My Blood), Lino Musella (Princess), Eduardo Scarpetta (The Ignorant Angels), Edoardo Pesce (Dogman) and Sonia Bergamasco (Like a Cat on a Highway).
