While everyone was mesmerized by the Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh’s pairing at this year’s Golden Globes, HBO not so subtlety dropped a huge teaser containing snippets form their 2019 line-up.
The teaser features clips from the upcoming Season 3 of True Detective, Season 2 of Barry, Season 8 of GoT, Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen adaptation and of course, the star studded drama award winning Big Little Lies.
For Game of Thrones fans, HBO’s First Look hits bit of a soft spot for audiences, seeing as this season will be the series’ last. Rumors surrounding an epic final battle between the show’s main houses was deduced from a previous 39-second spot that shows the chill falling over Westeros. That very same chill, then begins to climb over Stark’s direwolf and Targaryen’s dragon while a Lannister lion remains warmed by fire. HBO has not yet released an exact airdate or time for the premiere.
While Watchmen in particular, had its own 2009 adaptation by Zack Snyder (Batman v. Superman), the Alan Moore created comic will be renvisioned by The Leftovers alum. So far, James Wolk (The Tell Me a Story), Regina King (Seven Seconds), Jeremy Irons (The Borgias), and Jean Smart (Legion), have been confirmed to be joining the cast; although there was alot of secrecy surrounding the series’ casting originally.
HBO’s Watchmen will take place several decades after the initial comic’s plot, while being set during the peak of 1980s Cold War panic. And, of course with a new modern timeline comes new versions of Moore’s original characters including fan favorites from the comic: Ozymandias, Rorschach and even a rumored appearance from Dr. Manhattan.
Season 3 of True Detective will debut Sunday, Jan. 13 at 9/8c with a two-hour premiere. Big Little Lies cast members have sparked premiere date rumors, while Barry’s Season 2 debut still remains to be announced by the network.
