According to Deadline, Max has hired four new directors for season two of The Last of Us. The news comes in light of the recent casting of Kaitlyn Devers (No One Will Save You, Ticket to Paradise), Young Mazino (Beef, Glass) and Isabel Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Instant Family).
Nina Lopez-Corrado (Perry Mason, The Mentalist), Kate Herron (Loki, Doctor Who), Mark Mylod (Succession, The Menu) and Stephen Williams (Lost, Watchmen) are all slated to direct an episode.
The new directors have a decorated history in television.
Lopez-Corrado obtained an nomination from Imagen Foundation Awards for her directing Perry Mason. She has close ties at HBO directing on multipule shows for the network. Besides Perry Mason and The Last of Us, she has also directed two episodes of The Nevers.
Herron was recently a director and executive producer on Disney+’s Loki. She has directed four episodes of Netflix’s Sex Education.
Mylod is an acclaimed television director who is just recently coming off his Outstanding Drama Directing Emmy win for Succession season four episode three “Connor’s Wedding.” Mylod also directed four episodes in season four which include the season premiere and the series finale. He also has a rich history at HBO with directing credits for Entourage and Game Of Thrones.
Williams also has connections at HBO. Previously he directed Watchmen which garnered him a directing Emmy nomination and as a producer earned an Emmy win for Outstanding Limited Series. He has also directed two episodes of Westworld.
They will be joined by returning director Peter Hoar (Altered Carbon, Umbrella Academy), who was nominated for an Emmy for his directorial duties on episode three of The Last of Us, “Long, Long Time.” Co-creators, executive producers and show-runners Craig Mazin (Identity Theft, Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann (Uncharted Series) are also expected to direct an episode. According to Deadline, there is no information about whether any of the directors will direct multiple episodes. For comparison, season one had seven directors for nine episodes.
According to Deadline, production on season two is set to start next month in Vancouver.
