The premium network HBO has announced the season two premiere month for its original series His Dark Materials, as well as a trailer to accompany it, according to an HBO Press Release. Adapted to television by Jack Thorne (Skins, Shameless), the series is spawned from a novel series written by Philip Pullman (The Golden Compass). The original program debuted for BBC and HBO in early November 2019 and its first season consisted of eight episodes. The HBO series is executive produced by Pullman, Thorne, Toby Emmerich (The Conjuring 2, It, The Disaster Artist), Julie Gardner (Doctor Who), Jane Tranter (The Night Of, Doctor Who), Deborah Forte (The Golden Compass, Goosebumps), Dan McCulloch (Endeavour) and many more.
His Dark Materials centers on a fictional world that features humans paired up with forms of human souls in animal form. In particular, the series’ main character Lyra, an orphan, uncover crimes and mysteries that plague her world in the forms of people in power. The series cast features Dafne Keen (Logan) as Lyra, Anne-Marie Duff (Shameless, Sex Education) as Ma Costa, Ruth Wilson (Luther, The Affair) as Marisa Coulter, Clarke Peters (The Wire) as The Master of Jordan College, and Ariyon Bakare (Casualty, Doctors) as Lord Carlo Boreal. Additional cast includes the likes of James Cosmo (Game of Thrones, Braveheart, Get Duked!), Ruta Gedmintas (The Strain), Gary Lewis (Outlander), Will Keen (The Crown), Lucian Msamati (Game of Thrones), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), James McAvoy (Split, X-Men: First Class, Atonement), and Andrew Scott (Fleabag, Sherlock).
