Search Party, starring Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development), will end with its fifth season on HBO Max, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 10-episode final season will debut on the streamer on January 7.
The series centers around a group of 20-year-olds who become entangled in the mystery of the disappearance of their former college acquaintance, Chantal. The investigation is led by Shawkat’s Dory who drags her friends into the mission. Meredith Hagner (Vacation Friends), John Paul Reynolds (Save Yourselves!), John Early (Save Yourselves!), Michael Showalter (Wet Hot American Summer), Brandon Michael Hall (God Friended Me), and Clare McNulty (Fort Tilden) also star in the series. Search Party is among HBO Max’s last remaining scripted series that were not developed specifically for the platform, alongside Harley Quinn, Titans, Doom Patrol, The Other Two, and South Side.
Search Party aired its first two seasons in 2016 and 2017 at TBS, and was paused until it was picked up in the summer of 2020 by HBO Max. Its fourth season debuted in January. The show’s fifth season will feature Kathy Griffin (Pulp Fiction), John Waters (Hairspray), and Jeff Goldblum (The Fly) as guest stars.
