HBO Max’s pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death has been renewed for a second season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series premiered in March 2022 with 10 episodes in its debut season. It hails from creator and showrunner David Jenkins (People of Earth) and executive producer and star Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).
“We felt the show was special while we were making it, but fans’ open-armed embrace of the inhabitants of the Revenge makes heading into a second season all the more sweet,” Jenkins said in a statement, via The Hollywood Reporter. “Thanks to our team at HBO Max, our invested executive producers, and our wildly enthusiastic audience for making another voyage to this world possible.”
The premiere season of Our Flag Means Death was based on the life of 18th-century pirate Stede Bonnet, who was portrayed by Rhys Darby (What We Do in the Shadows). It followed his journey to becoming a pirate during continuous run-ins with the infamous Captain Blackbeard, played by Waititi. The series has been praised by critics due to its LGBTQ+ representation.
Details regarding the official release date or casting for the upcoming second season of Our Flag Means Death have yet to be released. However, Waititi will be seen again in Thor: Love and Thunder, which is slated for a July 8 release.
