HBO Max’s Gossip Girl celebrated the new year by revealing its main cast to the world. According to Deadline, the series’ official Instagram account posted each main cast member as their character. Along with their character’s name, a one-word descriptor was listed in the caption. This word gives a preview of the character’s overall motivations in the series.
According to Deadline, nine actors make up the show’s main cast: artist Jordan Alexander (Sacred Lies, Unbury the Biscuit), Eli Brown (Spinning Out, The F**k-It List), Thomas Doherty (The Lodge, Descendants 2), Tavi Gevninson (Person to Person, Enough Said), Emily Alyn Lind (Revenge, Enter the Void), skateboarder and model Evan Mock, Zion Moreno (Control Z, K-12), Whitney Peak (Molly’s Game, Home Before Dark), and newcomer Savannah Smith. Based on the book series written by Cecily von Ziegesar (All I Want is Everything, You Know You Love Me), the original Gossip Girl debuted in 2007 on The CW. For six seasons, viewers followed the sorted lives of wealthy Manhattan high school students whose darkest secrets became public knowledge via an anonymous blogger. The show catapulted the careers of its stars which included Blake Lively (A Simple Favor, The Shallows), Leighton Meester (The Roommate, Single Parents), Penn Badgley (You, Margin Call), Ed Westwick (Children of Men, Chalet Girl) and Chace Crawford (The Boys, The Covenant).
According to Deadline, the reboot returns to the New York preparatory school with a set of new, diverse students. Originally slated for a 2020 release, the series was pushed back to 2021 with production beginning last October. Read the series’ official logline below:

The reboot will see original series’ creators Joshua Schwartz (The O.C., Chuck) and Stephanie Savage (Dynasty, The Astronaut Wives Club) return to executive produce via production company Fake Empire, according to Deadline. Lis Rowinksi (Looking for Alaska, Nancy Drew) will serve as a co-executive producer. They are joined by Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein (The Originals, The 100) and Gina Girolamo (666 Park Avenue, You). The series’ 10 episodes will be written by Joshua Safran (Quantico, Soundtrack) with Karena Evans (P-Valley, Firecrackers) set to direct the first two. The series is also produced by Warner Bros. Television, CBS Studios, and Random Acts of Safran.
