HBO Max To Become Future Home To Former DC Universe Series

DC Universe – the former home for DC Comics shows such as Titans, Young Justice, and the canceled Swamp Thing – will soon transition to a comics-only streaming platform. According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO Max will be the future home to DC’s extensive content library and future series. The announcement was made in conjunction with HBO Max’s renewal of the adult animated series Harley Quinn.

Currently HBO Max houses the first two seasons of Harley Quinn and Doom Patrol. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Doom Patrol – which follows a group of misfit heroes fighting to survive – was renewed for a third season on the platform. The streaming service will soon be home for the animated Young Justice, Titans, and the first season of Stargirl.

DC Universe first launched in 2018 as the premier subscription service for all things DC Comics. In addition to access to DC’s extensive comics catalog, the platform contained live-action shows, animated series, films and other content from the imprint’s illustrious history. The monthly service gained traction with the live-action adaptation Titans, which brought characters such as Robin, Raven, Beast Boy, and Starfire to life. The show has run for two seasons with a third season renewal announced in August.

“Our fans love the platform’s robust library of comic books and, with the transformation, we will not disappoint,” DC Publisher and Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee said via The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m excited to share that not only will DC Universe Infinite members still be able to read all of the great comics that they’ve enjoyed but new issues are debuting on the platform quicker than before, digital first exclusives are being created, and the members-only events will begin as soon as possible,” Lee said according to The Hollywood Reporter.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the service will transition to DC Universe Infinite in Janurary 2021. Current subscribers will inhert a platform offering new comics six months after their release date, in contrast to the current year-wait. The comics publisher will also develop an array of exclusive digital-only titles such as DCeased: Hope at World’s EndHarley Quinn: Black + White + Red, and Injustice: Year Zero. Members will also become part of a fanbase community granted access to events throughout the year.
