HBO Max Series ‘Love and Death’ Casts Patrick Fugit as Candy Montgomery’s Husband

Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision) has gained her next on-screen husband. In the upcoming HBO Max original series Love and Death, Olsen will star opposite Patrick Fugit (Outcast) as the pair plays Candy and Pat Montgomery, via Deadline.

Candy Montgomery is infamous for being the Texas housewife who killed her good friend and neighbor, Betty Gore, with an axe in 1980. According to Deadline, the series is set to follow the true story of the crimes, but was inspired and is partially adapted from Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs. Additionally, two Texas Monthly articles – “Love & Death In Silicon Prairie,” Part I & II” – were used as references for the true crime aspect of the series.

Besides Fugit and Olsen, Love and Death is set to star Jesse Plemons (Judas and the Black Messiah) as Betty Gore’s husband, Allan Gore, via Deadline. The role of Betty Gore has yet to be cast.

Love and Death, which will be an HBO Max original series, comes from Lionsgate TV. According to Deadline, the series will be produced by David E. Kelley (writer, Big Little Lies) and Nicole Kidman (executive producer, Big Little Lies). Kelley additionally serves as the writer for the series. The true crime limited series will serve as the next project in Kelley and Kidman’s long list of collaboration which includes fellow HBO shows, Big Little Lies and The Undoing.

Kelley’s production company, David E. Kelley Productions, is attached to produce the series along with Kidman’s Blossom Films. According to Deadline, Per Saari (producer, Big Little Lies) is also attached as a producer on Love and Death through Blossom Films.
