You know you love her. HBO Max recently confirmed that the Gossip Girl reboot will return to television July 8 and dropped the series’ first teaser trailer, according to Variety. The trailer features Kristen Bell (The Good Place) reprising her role as the voice of the titular blog.
While the trailer doesn’t reveal plot specifics, it clearly brings the original 2007 series into a present day filled with smart phones, influencers and social media. “You’ve gotten so comfortable. Thinking you’re in control of your image, your actions, the narrative. But you forgot one thing: I can see you. And before I’m through, I’ll make sure you see me too,” Bell says in the voiceover within the trailer.
Variety notes that the show will pull inspiration from Josh Schwartz (The O.C.) and Stephanie Savage’s (The Astronaut Wives Club) original series, which ran for six seasons on The CW, as well as the novel by Cecily von Ziegesar.
The previously announced cast is set to include Jordan Alexander (Sacred Lies), Eli Brown (Spinning Out), Thomas Doherty (The Lodge), Tavi Gevninson (Person to Person), Emily Alyn Lind (Revenge,), skateboarder and model Evan Mock, Zion Moreno (Control Z), Whitney Peak (Molly’s Game) and newcomer Savannah Lee Smith.
Costume designer Eric Daman will return to dress the new class of Upper East Siders, according to Deadline. Daman developed the much-talked-about signature styles and fashion sensibilities of original lead characters Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester, The Roomate) and Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively, The Shallows).
The highly-anticipated reboot was originally scheduled to begin production in March 2020, but was delayed until October 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
