After Katy Perry’s poodle, celebrity dog groomer Jess Rona will take care of contestants’ dogs in the new original HBO Max comedy competition series Hot Dog. According to Deadline, the platform will launch a twelve episodes-first season in May where Rona will serve as a judge along with celebrity guests and unidentified co-host. According to the show’s press release, Hot Dog introduces “three dog groomers facing off in a full head-to-tail creative competition showcasing canine breeds of all kinds” The show was inspired by the 2018 book Jess Rona’s Groomed and hails from Jax Media and Nicolle Yaron (Making It) .
In a statement, executive vice president of original non-fiction and kids programming for HBO Max Jennifer O’Connell described how Rona’s talent would serve the show. “Jess Rona has made a name for herself as dog groomer-to-the stars and it is so fun to be able to bring her incredibly successful online brand and business to life in this way. Expect pure escapism that the whole family can watch together and root for their favorite pooch with the most fabulous and creative trans-fur-mations.” The famous dog groomer appeared in Drunk History and New Girl and built on important online fanbase with her signature slow-motion dog blow-dry videos.
