HBO Max Goes Live In New European Countries, Adding Prime Video Bundle

HBO Max expanded to eight European territories and included an exclusive Prime Video bundle deal, according to Variety. The new deal extends current partnerships in various countries.

According to Variety, countries added include Austria, Greece, Germany, Italy, Israel, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. It plans to extend to the U.K. and Ireland by the end of March, inching closer to being available in all of Europe.

Variety reports that in addition to a distribution deal with Germany’s RTL, HBO Max will be available on Waipu.tv. They have also struck deals with Switzerland’s Sunrise and Swisscom, and Italy’s TIM platform will gain access to HBO Max.

Viewers in the previously mentioned territories above will be able to enjoy content from the company’s various brands, including Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television, HBO proper, the DC Universe, and Max Originals. Variety lists popular shows include Emmy winner for Outstanding Drama, The PittIt: Welcome to Derry, the upcoming third season of House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, The White Lotus, and Euphoria. Subscribers can also view movies such as DC’s Superman and The Batman, and the Dune and Harry Potter franchises.

“It is exciting to kick off the new year by expanding into some of the biggest economies in the world, as we continue to deliver HBO Max to new viewers,” said CEO and president of global streaming and games, JB Perrette, via Variety. “Next up is the launch of HBO Max in the U.K. and Ireland in late March, which will complete HBO Max’s rollout across Europe.”

As the service expands to potential new subscribers, there are still apparent unknowns about Warner Bros. Discovery’s pending merger with Netflix. While the Tudum streamer won the bid late last year, Paramount has been persistent in trying to foil the acquisition after having their bid declined three times.
