Max Cancelled Its Series ‘Julia’ After Two Seasons

Max has not renewed its series Julia after just two seasons, Deadline reports. The show was renewed for second season last November and the season two finale (now considered the series finale) was released on Dec. 21.

“We are so honored to have partnered with Chris Keyser (Party Of Five, Time Of Your Life, The Society), Daniel Goldfarb (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Driftwood Two-Lizard Mom, Tyrant) and their masterful creative team and dynamic cast, led by Sarah Lancashire (The Cry, The Dresser, Seeing Red), as they cooked up Julia,” a rep for the streamer has shared in a statement, via Deadline. “Thanks to their beautiful work over two seasons of this heartful, sensual, and inspiring show, we can forever celebrate the incredible legacy of Julia Child.”

The show starred Lancashire as famous chef Julia Child. Alongside her, David Hyde Pierce (Frasier, The Perfect Host, Wet Hot American Summer) co-starred in the cooking series as well. The supporting cast included Brittany Bradford (Glue Trap, The Same Storm, The Watcher), Fiona Glascott (The Duel, House Of Shadows, Apartment 143), Robert Joy (Land of the Dead, The Hills Have Eyes and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem), Bebe Neuwirth (Frasier, Cheers, How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days), and Fran Kranz (Mass, The Cabin in the Woods, Rebirth).

Other guest stars are Judith Light (Who’s the Boss?, Ugly Betty, Shining Vale), Isabella Rossellini (Blue Velvet, Death Becomes Her, La Chimera), and James Cromwell (Becoming Jane, The Green Mile, Salem’s Lot). Keyser was the showrunner, Goldfarb was the show creator and wrote the pilot. Other important producers were Todd Schulkin (Memento, Following, The Julia Child Challenge) as a Consulting Producer (from The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts), Charles McDougall (The Good Wife, Big Shots, Desperate Housewives) and Erica Lipez  (We Were the Lucky Ones, The Morning Show, Bates Motel) as pilot directors.

According to Deadline, this series is inspired by the life of Child and her famous show The French Chef. This show points out many important historical themes: the feminism and women’s rights movement, the social image of celebrities, and the rising importance of public television.

“Julia Child tends to make people happy,”  Keyser and Goldfarb stated when season one was renewed, via Deadline. “In a bleak world, she is a welcome balm. Making this show has done the same for us. Working with our cast — with Sarah and David — our production team, writers, directors and editors, who have become our friends, makes us happy. In the language of Julia, it feeds our souls.”

Julia seasons one and two are available to stream on Max for its users now.
