HBO Max Adds Five New Cast Members to ‘Dune: The Sisterhood’ Series

According to Deadline, HBO Max has added five more actresses to their Dune: The Sisterhood series cast. In previous announcements, the casting of Emily Watson (Chernobyl, The Happy Prince) and Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter, Lovely Little Farm) who will be playing the Harkonnen sisters was revealed. Indira Varma (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Game of Thrones), who will play Empress Natalya, also announced her participation. 

The announcement, via Deadline, reveals the participation of Sarah-Sofie Boussnina (The Colony, Knightfall), Shalom Brune-Franklin (The Tourist, Love Me), Faoileann Cunningham (The Northman), Aoife Hinds (The Long Call, Normal People), and Chloe Lea (Foundation, The Dumping Ground) in Dune: The Sisterhood

As for the roles they are playing, Boussnina will play Princess Ynez, a young and independent woman who has to deal with all the pressures that come with the responsibility of being the heir to the Golden Lion Throne. 

Brune-Franklin will star as Mikaela, a Femen woman with a strong will who serves the royal family while also feeling homesick for a planet she has never known. 

Cunningham will play Sister Jen, an unpredictable acolyte who is training at the Sisterhood School while rarely revealing her emotional core. 

Hinds portrays Sister Emeline, a devoted acolyte who descends from a long line of martyrs and carries intense religion while training at the Sisterhood School. 

Lea is Lila, the youngest acolyte at the school, with a deep empathy beyond her years. 

The series, which is based on Frank Herbert’s (The Godmakers) novel Sisterhood of Dune, is set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides’ ascension and follows the Harkonnen sisters who will combat forces that threaten the future of humankind. They are also behind the establishment of the mythical sect the Bene Gesserit. 

According to Deadline, Diane Ademu-John (Empire, The Originals) will serve as the series’ creator, writer, co-showrunner, and executive producer. The other co-showrunner is Alison Schapker (Westworld, Scandal) who will also executive produce. The premiere episode will be directed and executive produced by Johan Renck (Chernobyl, The Last Panthers). Among the executive producers is Denis Villeneuve (Dune), who was involved in the production of the 2021 Dune film. 

Dune: The Sisterhood will start production in November in Budapest, Hungary. The 2021 Dune film is available to watch on HBO Max.
