HBO has renewed the City Of God: The Fight Rages On for season two, only five days after the series debuted on Max. According to Variety, the show is dropping five new episodes for its first season, one weekly episode on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on HBO Latino, with the second episode coming out on September 1. City Of God: The Fight Rages On will also be available to stream on Max.
According to Deadline, City Of God: The Fight Rages On follows the characters from the City Of God movie twenty years into the future through the perspective of Wilson (Rocket). Wilson returns to “the community” when the release of a young drug dealer puts the City of God in Turmoil once more. Residents of the city are at crossfires between drug dealers, militias and government authorities, but their desire to usurp their oppressors drives the community to unite.
According to Variety, Rodrigues will retain his role as Wilson from the original City Of God film. In addition, there will be several other members from the original film who will also return for the series, including Thiago Martins (Brazil Avenue), Roberta Rodrigues (Cedo Demais), Sabrina Rosa (Lula and Miguel), Wayne LeGette (Just My Type), Marcos Palmeira (Port of Miracles), Andréia Horta (As Aventuras de José & Durval TV) and Kiko Marques (Pure Beauty).
The HBO original series is produced by O2 Filmes, a film company that focuses its content on Hispanic audiences and brings films such as 7 Prisoners. On behalf of O2 Filmes, Maíra Oliveira (Rich In Love 2), Patricia Andrade (Nise: The Heart Of Madness) and Paulo Lins (Quase Dois Irmãos) will be writing the script for the City Of God: The Fight Rages On. As reported by Deadline, O2 Filmes will also be collaborating with Warner Bros. Discovery producers.
