WarnerMedia, HBO’s parent company, has canceled the HBO Go streaming app on Friday, according to The Wrap. This cancellation news comes in the wake of the release of another Warnermedia’s streaming platform, HBO Max.
The new app includes more than HBO content, allowing the user to stream with more series, movies, with the addition of Max Originals. A total of 10,000 hours of HBO Max content to stream. HBO Max eliminates HBO having multiple streaming services under the same name, instead combining them together.
WarnerMedia explained in a statement, “Now that HBO Max has launched and is widely distributed, we can implement some significant changes to our app offering in the U.S. As part of that plan, we will be sun setting our HBO GO service in the U.S. We intend to remove the HBO GO app from primary platforms as of July 31, 2020” via The Wrap.
HBO Go was released 10 years ago as a way for HBO subscribers to be able to watch their favorite shows any time they wanted. HBO later came up with HBO Now in 2015. HBO Now is a standalone streaming service for people without cable or satellite. HBO Now will now be reintroduced as HBO moving forward according to Entertainment Weekly.
