While fans are priming for the highly-anticipated prequel series this August, another Game of Thrones spinoff may be coming to HBO. CNN reports the network is discussing a possible series featuring the valiant adoptive Stark himself, Jon Snow. The series would follow the character after the events of the original series finale, with Kit Harington reportedly poised to reprise his iconic role.
Harington was recently seen depicting Dane Whiteman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s film, Eternals. He also appeared in Amazon’s 2019 TV series, Modern Love. But it was the eight seasons of HBO’s fantastical adaptation of Geroge R. R. Martin’s (The Winds of Winter, Dark Winds) A Song of Fire and Ice novel saga in which Harington made his name. Now, allegedly, the network may be eyeing a return for the illegitimate child of the Targaryen lineage.
According to CNN, the series would follow Snow’s journey beyond Westeros, as viewers may recall the character was exiled from the kingdom in the show’s ending. Being this story would exist outside of Martin’s original narrative, there would be a bit more freedom to explore the character’s present happenings. It could also open the door for former stars of the show to return as possible guest stars. We could see what became of Lady Sansa Stark, played by Sophie Turner (Dark Phoenix, The Staircase) as she reigned over Winterfell; or, perhaps follow the trailblazing path Maisie Williams’ (The New Mutants, Pistols) Arya Stark made for herself outside of the constraints of royal duty.
If the series would become more than an idea, it would join an already crowded Thrones plate over at HBO. Along with House of the Dragon‘s premiere later this summer, two other live-action spinoffs are said to be in development. There were also talks of expanding the universe to animated content. This would place a Jon Snow show farther down the timeline, especially with Harington entrenched with a role in Disney’s Marvel Comics franchise for years to come.
HBO did not comment on this development.
