HBO Announces Premiere Date For Last Season Of Original Drama ‘My Brilliant Friend’

The HBO Original drama series My Brilliant Friend premiered in 2018 as a show based on Italian author Elena Ferrante’s (The Lying Life of Adults, The Days of Abandonment) best-selling novels of the same name, following “the lives of two young girls, Elena and Lilia, who enter a crucial stage of their Italian schooling,” according to mxdwn. The saga of My Brilliant Friend is coming to close as its fourth season will premiere Monday, September 9 at 9:00 p.m. ET/ 10:00 P.M. PT, marking its final installment, via the Warner Bros. Discovery official press release.

According to the official press release, the fourth season of My Brilliant Friend is based on Ferrante’s novel My Brilliant Friend: The Story Of The Lost Child, where the series will follow “Elena Greco and the most important friend in her life, Raffaella “Lila” Cerullo. After meeting as children in 1950s Naples, their story goes on to cover over 60 years, exploring the mystery of Lila – Elena’s brilliant best friend and, in a way, her worst enemy. The fourth installment of the saga, titled “Story of the Lost Child,” delves into the adult lives of Elena and Lila. They find themselves entangled in the turmoil of Italy in the late 1980s, nearing the end of decades of political violence and social unrest. Amid motherhood and career demands, amid betrayals, threats, disappearances, and natural disasters, Elena and Lila once again reside in the same neighborhood.”

According to the official press release, the fourth season of My Brilliant Friend will stream exclusively on Max, with new episodes released weekly after September 9. There will be ten episodes in the series’ last season. The official trailer is available to watch below.
