The upcoming miniseries The Third Day for the premium cable network HBO has announced its new premiere date on Monday, September 14, according to Deadline. The miniseries was supposed to begin its run on May 11, yet its premiere was halted due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic affecting film and television production. Despite finishing filming, The Third Day was in the process of completing its post-production when the pandemic shut down most of the film and television industries.
The miniseries is created by Felix Barrett and Dennis Kelly (Utopia, Black Sea) and the show will act as a co-production between the British production company Sky and HBO. Kelly and Barrett also act as executive producers for the show alongside Jeremy Kleiner (12 Years a Slave, Selma) and Dede Gardner (If Beale Street Could Talk, Moonlight) in addition to Adrian Sturges (Houdini and Doyle, Fearless) producing the series.
The Third Day is a six-part miniseries for HBO and centers on three parts that all converge at different parts of its respective narratives. Split into three distinct parts, two of these will be titled “Summer” and “Winter” with the ensuing third part acting as a live event that is currently lacking a title. “Summer” and “Winter” will be directed by Marc Munden (Utopia) and Philippa Lowthorpe (The Crown) and will compose the entire six-part episodes. “Summer” centers on the main character Sam who discovers a secretive British island where he interacts with its natives who are preoccupied by maintaining their roots and traditions. “Winter,” on the other hand centers on the story of Helen who arrives at the same island, yet comes at a time of a heated conflict with those inhabiting its space.
The show’s cast includes Jude Law (The Young Pope, Spy) as Sam, Naomie Harris (28 Days Later, Skyfall) as Helen, Emily Watson (Chernobyl, War Horse), Paddy Considine (Hot Fuzz, Cinderella Man, Peaky Blinders), Freya Allan (The Witcher), John Dagleish (Christopher Robin), and Katherine Waterston (Steve Jobs, Alien: Covenant).
